J-E boys track takes third at sectional Class B-2 meet

first_imgThree area track and field teams would battle for top honors during Thursday’s Section III Class B-2 championships at Canastota High School before a fierce storm hit late in the meet and postponed the final event, the boys high jump.Before that, though, every other event was completed, and Jordan-Elbridge finished third in the boys division with 67.5 points, just behind runner-up Hannibal (72 points) as Cazenovia won with 151 points.The Eagles won the 4×800 relay as Derek Quigley, Lee Jewell, Kenny Williams and Michael Bennick went eight minutes, 44.99 seconds to beat runner-up Cazenovia (8:59.97) by nearly 15 seconds. Marion Quigley had another big day, going 15.50 seconds to prevail in the 110 hurdles before winning the 200-meter dash in 23.31 seconds, edging Cazenovia’s Slater DeLeon (23.35) for the title. Quigley also had a second-place long jump of 20 feet 2 ¼ inches.J-E won the 4×400 as Williams, Logan Kinney, Marion Quigley and Derek Quigley went 3:36.18. Williams finished third in the 800-meter run in 2:07.07. J-E also was third in the 4×100 relay in 46.41 seconds as Zach Barber was sixth in the triple jump.Skaneateles had 62.5 points to finish sixth, with Marcellus earning 39 points for seventh place. The Lakers got 20 points out of the mile, where Caleb Bender won in 4:40.33 and Joe Norris was second in 4:44.27, with Matt Persampieri fifth in 5:00.35. Bender completed his distance sweep by winning the 3,200-meter run in 10:15.47 as no one else broke the 11-minute mark. Norris took fifth place in the 800.Connor Gell was second in the 400-meter dash in 52.25 seconds as J-E had Kinney in sixth place. Nicola Kunz got second place in the 400 hurdles in 59.80 seconds, with Nick Paciorek (1:02.80) sixth.Kunz had a fifth-place pole vault of 10 feet, tying J-E’s Nate Willaims for that spot, as the Lakers were fifth in the 4×800 in 9:33.10 and fifth in the 4×100 in 46.86 seconds.Marcellus’ Nick Roseboom was victorious in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:12.92, beating out Persampieri, who was second for Skaneateles in 10:53.75 as J-E had Jewell in fourth place.Jonah Kwasnowski finished second in the pentathlon with 2,194 points. Kyle Brown threw the shot put 40’10” to take third place, with Dan Balman third in the discus with 116’6”.Mason Grieb was fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:01.58) as Ryan White was fifth in the 100-meter dash and helped the Mustangs get sixth place in the 4×100, with the Mustangs fifth in the 4×400.In the girls sectional Class B-2 meet, Skaneateles did best among the local sides, finishing sixth with 39 points, Marcellus and J-E each getting 23 points as Clinton 160.5 points) finished on top.Nearly half the Lakers’ points came from Emme Conan, who was second in the 100 sprint in 13.29 seconds to Canastota’s Devin Lee Robinson (12.96) and also was second in the 200 in 26.82 seconds to Sherburne-Earlville’s Amberlyn Robertson (26.38)In between, Emme Conan, paired with Graeson Landsberg, Eva Vitsaxaki and Grace Conan, went 51.28 seconds in the 4×100 for yet another second-place finish as Canastota (50.73) prevailed. The Lakers also had Sharla Dart finish second in the shot put with 31’8 ½”.Marcellus saw Delaney Manahan go 1:01.51 to finish second in the 400 sprint to Robertson, who won in 58.99 seconds. Julianna Szczech cleared 8’6” to tie for second in the pole vault. Sophia Shaw tied for third in the high jump, clearing 4’8”.J-E had Vassianna Klock, Abby Burns, Hannah Fichter and Coral Uhle finish second in the 4×800 in 10:21.05. Marcellus finished fifth in 10:53.32, with Skaneateles seventh. Klock also finished sixth in the 1,500-meter run in 5:21.30, with the Eagles fourth in the 4×400.The Eagles’ Meagan Jackson was fourth in the pentathlon with 1,738 points, eight points ahead of teammate Kyra White in fifth place, with Marcellus’ Amy Francesconi sixth by earning 1,616 points.
