first_imgWest Florida On Top of Leaderboard at Bubba Watson Invitational Sept. 17, 2007 Complete Results  PACE, Fla. – After opening their fall season with a top ten finish West Florida returned home and took a ten stroke lead after the first day of the Bubba Watson Invitational on Monday, which was hosted by UWF and the Stonebrook Golf Course in Pace, Fla. The Argonauts will have a double-digit lead going into the final day of competition after shooting a first day 327 team-total. University of Mobile is in second with a first day 337 one stroke ahead of Henderson State (399), and two strokes in front of Montevallo (339) and Saint Leo (339).Bhavna Shetty finished the round in second place overall with a +5 (77), six strokes behind Saint Leo’s Meghan Costello who shot a first day +1 (73). Freshman Tara Steakin ended the round just two strokes behind her teammate, in a tie for 3rd place, with a +7 (79).Rachel Christ posted the third best Argonaut round just two shots out of the top ten, in a tie for 12th, with a round one +12 (84). Natalia Espinosa rounded out the scoring for West Florida with a day one +15 (87).Also on the course for West Florida were freshmen Emily Rone, Meaghan Guliksen and Danielle Smith. Rone, who was playing as an individual, shot a +15 (87), Guliksen was one stroke behind with a +16 (88) and Smith shot a +20 (92).”You always like to win your home tournament,” said head coach Robin Dezarn. “It’s always hard, when you have new players, trying to get them to play with confidence. Hopefully with a good finish tomorrow and it can build to the rest of the year.”The Argonauts will play the second and final day of the Bubba Watson Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 18 with the first tee time beginning at 7:30 a.m. The Argonauts will begin to tee off at 8:58 a.m. and continuing for eight minute intervals.
