first_img Share Garcia and McHenry Lead West Florida to Victory Sept. 2, 2007Box ScoreSAINT LEO, Fla. – Juan Garcia saved two penalty kicks and Jimmy McHenry slotted a pair of goals in West Florida’s (2-1-0) 2-1 victory over regional rival Saint Leo (1-1-1) Sunday afternoon at University Field on the Lions campus, in Saint Leo, Fla.Jimmy McHenry gave West Florida an early lead with two first half goals, giving him four on the weekend. His first goal came in the 25th minute of the game when the Argonauts goalkeeper Juan Garcia (Jr. / Bogota, Columbia) placed his punt down the sideline to a streaking Rafael Segal (Jr. / Rishon Lezion, Israel) who advanced it up the field. Segal then snuck a pass into the middle of the box and McHenry took the ball off finger tips of the Lions goalkeeper, Griffin Pharr, to finish on an open net.Two minutes later, McHenry caught Pharr out of position and blasted a shot from the edge of the center circle, burning the Lions goalkeeper. All four of McHenry’s goals this season have come in the first half.Saint Leo struck back with goal five minutes before the half. Leonardo Nogueira picked up a rebounded block by Garcia and placed in between a swarm of Argonaut defenders to make the score 2-1.In the second half, Garcia once again came up big for West Florida, this time in front of the net saving two Saint Leo penalty kicks. Four minutes into the half a Lions player was taken down inside the box resulting in the first penalty kick, which Garcia saved along with the follow-up effort.With two minutes left in the in the game Saint Leo was given their second chance too even the match, but Garcia once again saved the shot along with the second chance attempt.”I am very proud of the team,” said head coach Bill Elliott. “We were set up for failure. They [Saint Leo] had Friday off and got to scout us when we played Tampa. We had to battle against some tough calls that went against us, on a hot day, following a lightning delay and pre-game bus problem. We had it all, but some how came out of there with a win and I couldn’t be happier.”It is West Florida’s third straight victory follow their season opening loss. Up next for the Argonauts is a weekend road trip to Rollins and Florida Southern. On Friday they take on the Tars at 6:30 p.m. ET and on SUnday the Moccasin at 2:30 p.m. ET.
