Forget about Jose! Man United don’t want Mourinho as manager, claims Andy Gray

first_imgAndy Gray believes Manchester United have no interest in appointing Jose Mourinho as their manager.Mourinho, axed by Chelsea earlier this month, is being backed by many United fans to replace Louis van Gaal after a woeful run of form.United have failed to win any of their last eight games and picked up just a point over the festive period, with Monday’s goalless draw with Chelsea coming 48 hours after a woeful 2-0 defeat at Stoke.Mourinho merchandise was on sale at Old Trafford ahead of the game against his former club as speculation mounted over Van Gaal’s future. But Gray believes the United board remain behind the Dutchman and reckons there is zero prospect of Mourinho being brought in to replace him.Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, he said: “I don’t get the impression coming from the inner sanctum at Old Trafford that they are looking to get rid of Louis van Gaal unless they really, really have to do because of pressure from the fans.“And I get the impression they don’t want Mourinho. Jose Mourinho has been available for two weeks and, after that awful performance at the Britannia, if they really wanted Jose Mourinho that was the perfect opportunity for Manchester United to go ahead and get him.“I think Mourinho and United is just something that might not happen.“I don’t think United are in a hurry to do anything at all. If they really wanted Mourinho, they would have jumped by now.”last_img read more
