A $2,513,542 road-paving contract awarded by the Department of Transportation and Public Works will result in stronger, smoother roads in central Guysborough County. The contract, awarded to S.W. Weeks Contracting Inc., is for repaving of Route 316 5.8 kilometres south of the intersection of Route 276 in Goshen south for 6.1 kilometres to the Guysborough/St. Marys Municipal Boundary. Also included is repaving of South Lake River Road from the intersection of Route 316 east for about 6.1 kilometres. “Good roads are the key to the future of rural Nova Scotia,” said Ronald Chisholm, acting Minister of Transportation and Public Works. “The province is working hard to get our roads back into tip-top condition.” The Department of Transportation and Public Works’ highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro, and Sydney.
